Administrative prescription drug claims are an important source of data in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics, yet little is known about the accuracy of these data. To shed light on this issue, we compare a random sample of prescription drug claims for beneficiaries of the Ontario Drug Benefit plan submitted by pharmacies with the corresponding information on ODB claims records to assess (a) whether all claims submitted are recorded by ODB, and (b) whether information on the submitted claims records match information on ODB records.
